UNDARA VOLCANIC NATIONAL PARK

DAY 15
8th September 2018 Saturday

We are at Undara Volcanic NP.  We had thought we would stay at Mount Surprise but decided as it was early in the day we would press on as we thought there would be more to see here at Undara. The surprise about Mt Surprise is there is no mountain!! Good if you are interested if fossicking but not much else there was a small market I bought some pickles and balsamic vinegar.
We are camped here among the trees also a resort and Bar/restaurant area here very nice.

DAY 17
10th September 2018 Monday   Birthday day

Lava Tube tour this morning (birthday treat) we went on the medium fitness tour, was really interesting and enjoyable and all very natural.  Layers of vernacular Basalt (very porous rock) and Granite were spewed out by the volcano. Granite being the bottom layer, the water in  the wet season would soak down through the basalt and gets caught in between the  basalt and the granite there fore giving a very good supply of underground water.
The lava tubes was on private property The owners developed Undara as a tourist destination and developed the camping area in 1970,s.  Then the Labor government in at the time 1994 decided it was a site of significance and took the lease back.
