To-day we went to LLanberis to go for a ride on The Snowden Railway. Went up to the top of Snowden mountain was very foggy quite high and lovely scenery.
Then went on to Cearnarfon Castle ( a well looked after ruin) Was really a palace according to our guide you can tell by the different coloured bands of stone used and size. One Edward 1 built in 1283-1323 was never finished. It had plumbed water into the kitchen!! Another bit of trivia Did you know that the bigger your fire place was the more important and wealthy you were. Also the arrow holes were very interesting
in that from the outside the enemy only saw say 5 holes along the wall, but on the inside there where another two holes each side leading into the main one which shot out arrows to the sides, very clever.
Another castle with a walled village, seemed to be the thing with Edward 1st
The Welsh Castles where different in that they where smaller and round and built for the purpose of collecting taxes
